Hello everyone,
So who is sHaKeNbAkE and why build this site? I'm a middle aged man with a great career and family who truly enjoys PC video games especially FPS shooters like Red Orchestra 2. I have been playing for many years now and have dabbled in creating gaming communities, websites, and running various gaming servers. To be honest I am a little burnt out on the main stream blockbuster titles that have come out and I find they have lost the essence of what gaming to me is truly about.
The "essence" I speak of can be found in titles such as Red Orchestra 2 and it continually draws me back to the game. Great graphics are wonderful and perks that let you nuke an entire battlefield are sometimes fun but for me they fail to take me to the next level of game immersion and I find myself quickly losing interest. Red Orchestra 2, although not being played by millions, has some very special qualities that for me make it one of my most enjoyable games.
The distance sounds of the machine guns firing, screams and cries from wounded and fallen soldiers, the cover system, the breathing (which is sometimes funny), the sarcastic comments, the suppression system when bullets are jumping up around you, the slower pace which does a such a great job of building tension, the anxiety builds as you decide should I cross that open area knowing full well a sniper is dialed in waiting to level you with one shot, paying the price for when you do die that you actually may have to wait before you can get back to the frontline to help your comrades, the historical references, and usually the mature crowd that gravitates to this game make this game special to me. It by far is not a "perfect" game but I think the "flaws" actually add to the game experience and are part of what really happens in war....things go wrong and you must adapt.
This is my effort to increase the interest in this game by providing a centralized area for Red Orchestra 2 information, tools, files, networking, and especially for the modding community as they truly are artists. I encourage all of you who may enjoy this game as much as I do to support other players, especially the new players, otherwise the number of players will continue to shrink. Less players means more bots and as much as I have grown to love the bots I will go for a "real" player anyday.
Please do not hesitate to send me a friend request on Steam and I look forward to hearing from you and maybe we will cross on the battlefield.
Best Regards,
sHaKeNbAkE
